A weekend away with the kids
Whether you are looking for an action-packed weekend or a relaxing break with something to do that gets the kids running around in the fresh air, then Norfolk’s the perfect choice. The key priority will be to select a base from which you can explore for a weekend away with the kids. One that is ideal for all the family. Number 10 The Abbey, Norfolk, ticks all the boxes. It’s sophisticated, packed full of hi-tech gadgets, has a bespoke, designer, interior and is also ideally placed for families looking to be based within striking reach of major tourist attractions. There are attractive shopping and eating out areas, and a variety of ideas for days out for your weekend away with the kids.
For Dad & the boys
Starting with Wymondham, if it’s a weekend away with the kids, they’ll love the Mid-Norfolk railway, running from Wymondham to the market town of Dereham. The preserved railway is based at the disused Great Eastern Railway station, where there is a booking office, cafe, gift shop and a small historical display. Dereham is conveniently close to Norwich so, at this point, you could decide to take a detour into Norwich which is definitely worth a whole day out. You can visit the Norwich lanes, historical landmarks and open-air market to name just a few.
For dads and boys, you can book a tour of the Lotus factory, but make sure to book in advance. This is a working factory and you are not allowed to take pictures. Refreshments are basic, but boys will absolutely love it!
There’s also the tank museum and the motorcycle museum, all based in Wymondham, so you will not be short of things to do.
For Mum & the girls
Sometimes we all need a day trip once in a while or a nice a weekend away with the kids and the family. For mums and girls, the Norfolk Lavender fields are based closely to Number 10 The Abbey. New tours, starting in 2018, will incorporate a further 36 fields in Heacham. There’s a large gift shop, tea shop and even a farm to explore. If you want to see all the fields in flower, remember this aspect will be seasonal.
Done with tourist attractions?
Once you’ve had your fill of tourist attractions in and around Wymondham, visit The Hen House and Egg Shed for some jumbo omelettes, or just coffee and cake. There are various places to sit and the owner is delightful. This is one place that always gets great reviews and is very popular with its clientele!
Afterwards, take a stroll down to Wymondham Heritage museum, a lovely gem in an already beautiful town. View the old jail and the prison dungeon. The exhibits of local industry and the coffee shop are all lovely and well organised and run by helpful volunteer staff. This is a lovely place to visit for all the family, particularly with small children. There is also a café here but opening times depend on the number of volunteers available.
Or you can take the A11 into Norwich and explore all that this wonderful City has to offer.
